Tony Award winning actress LaChanze will celebrate the release of her first children's book on Saturday, May 15 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at a BAMfamily Book Brunch at the BAMcafe.

The book, titled "Little Diva," is about a little girl named Nena, who wants to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a Broadway star. The book is illustrated by award-winning artist Brian Pinkney.

The event, which is suggested for children ages 4-8, will feature a special performance by LaChanze.

In 2006, LaChanze won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Celie in THE COLOR PURPLE. Her other Broadway credits include ONCE ON THIS ISLAND and FUNNY GIRL. Off-Broadway credits include DESSA ROSE, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, and THE BUBBLY BLACK GIRL SHEDS HER CHAMELEON SKIN. Other theater credits include roles in RAGTIME, THE WIZ, BABY, and COMFORTABLE SHOES.
