This December, Live Girls! Theater will present the first episode in its new science fiction series, The Secret and Impossible League of the Noöspherein the Baltimore Plot. The series follows the adventures of a secret league of extraordinary historical figures with access to a sphere of reality that grows with the power of human cognition. Caught out of time in this literal Noösphere, where reality is formed and destroyed through the power of Ideas, Ada Lovelace, Nicola Tesla, and Lord Byron discover that a dark force is dismantling human history. With the help of their sentient ship, the Mary-Celeste, and a unique engine built by Charles Babbage, they locate the source of the disturbance in - 1850's America. Once there, they must partner with the Pinkerton Detective Agency and Kate Warne, the world's first female detective, to save Abraham Lincoln and possibly the world.

"Just as the emergence of life fundamentally transformed the Geosphere, the emergence of human cognition fundamentally transformed the Biosphere. And continues to transform it. [The] NoöSphere grows in awareness, guiding us toward our next transformation." -The Secret and Impossible League of the Noösphere in the Baltimore Plot by Darian Lindle

Darian Lindle is a playwright, novelist, coffee connoisseur, stargazer, voice actor, and mother-of-twins living in Seattle. She is a long time collaborator with LG!, where she first directed Daniel Christensen in 2007, and they shortly thereafter produced her first play, Jackson. Her work has since received 60+ productions. Her adaptation of Ellen Raskin's The Westing Game is published by Dramatic Publishing and regularly produced around the country. iDiOM Theatre commissioned and produced her puppet fantasia The City of Crooked Teeth in 2010. She has received Individual Artist grant support from 4Culture and in 2017, she was honored to receive the Mazen Award for Collaborative Risk-taking from 14/48: The World's Quickest Theatre Festival. Darian's passions include mythology, speculative fiction, science, melodrama, geekery, family, and intersectional feminism.

In this piece, she combines sci-fi, historical fiction, and fantasy tropes with a twist of sharp Austenien sensibility. The characters are plucked from history and thrust together, creating surprising intellectual and personal tensions. The concept is the result of conversations between director Meghan Arnette and Lindle about theatre, science fiction, identity, the female voice, and the power of serial storytelling. This episode was commissioned by Live Girls! through the Layer Cake Development program.
