LEGACY: THE MUSICALS OF OFF-BROADWAY, Concert Presentations of Landmark Off-Broadway Musicals, will present PROMENADE as its first offering, on Monday April 12th at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues) as a benefit for The Off-Broadway Alliance.

Promenade, with book and lyrics by Maria Irene Fornés and music by Al Carmines debuted April 9th 1965, for three weekends at the Judson Poets' Theatre, Judson Memorial Church. The 1969 production. featuring a young Madeline Kahn, made its Off-Broadway premiere at the newly opened Promenade Theatre where it ran 259 performances.

The New York Times called Promenade "a mixture of Candide and Samuel Beckett viewed through Lewis Carroll's looking glass. But in its odd way it's an exquisite piece of musical theater." Fornes was awarded her first Obie for both The Successful Life of 3 and Promenade as 'Distinguished Plays.'

Promenade is part of The 2010 New York Fornés Festival presented by INTAR (Eduardo Machado, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) and New York University's Department of English & its Program in Dramatic Literature celebrating the 80th birthday of playwright, director and teacher Maria Irene Fornés.

Promenade marks the debut of LEGACY: The Musicals of Off-Broadway, a new series of concert presentations of landmark musicals that premiered Off-Broadway. Pamela Hall directs a cast that includes Andrea McArdle, Jim Brochu, Victoria Mallory, Loni Ackerman, Virginia Seidel, Neva Small, Gene Castle, Brian Childers, Haviland Stillwell, Tim Ewing, Dale Radunz, Ron Spivak, James Donegan, Allen E. Read and Joshua Nicholson. Ken Lundie will serve as Musical Director. Gene Castle will provide additional musical staging.

Tickets for all seats are $75 to benefit The Off-Broadway Alliance, an organization of Off-Broadway producers, general managers, venue owners, press agents, and marketing firms, who meet monthly to promote and support Off-Broadway theatre, encourage and assist new producers, and plan for the future of the industry. Membership is open to everyone in the Off-Broadway theatre community.
