Simply put, Ladies of Laughter is the biggest platform for women in comedy! Three of the funniest women to join this acclaimed group are now headed to the Harris Center as part of their Funny & Fabulous Tour.
From 1989-1992, New York City comedy show producer/comedienne Mary Jo Wobker, was instrumental in giving many new comediennes their start in stand-up comedy. After Mary Jo's sudden death in 1992, Peggy Boyce, along with Mary Jo's friends, created a women's stand-up comedy competition in her name. The "Mary Jo Comedy Awards" served as a platform for women comediennes to gain publicity, and cash to further their careers.
In 1998, the program was born in a non-air conditioned YWCA in Ridgewood, New Jersey. For five weeks, amateur and professional comediennes from all over New Jersey signed up to stand-up and try their hand at comedy in front of standing-room-only crowds.
In 1999, based on its success, Bud Light signed on as the title sponsor and the Ladies of Laughter was ushered into comedy clubs, Atlantic City Casinos and even Madison Square Garden. Now funny women around the United States, Canada, England and Australia regularly apply for participation.

Alycia is a favorite at clubs and casinos all across America and has appeared on America's Got Talent, and Nickelodeon's Mom's Night Out.
Since winning the Ladies of Laughter Contest in 1999, Dana Eagle has appeared on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central's Premium Blend and Byron Allen's Comics Unleashed, on which she became a contributing writer. She is most proud of the unique experience performing throughout Iraqi bases for the troops.
Dana was showcased in HBO's US Comedy Arts Festival in her solo show, Stones From Glass Houses, followed by the second in the series, Mood Disorders: A Light-Hearted Romp Through Crippling Depression, featured at the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival. She recently completed a pilot for the E! Entertainment Network, and has been seen in a series of memorable commercials beside Jay Mohr and football legend, Boomer Esiason. Comedy Clubs around the country are abuzz about Dana, who is featured with some of today's top headliners including D.L. Hughley, Roseanne Barr, and Bill Maher.
Robin Fox, the 2012 Ladies of Laughter winner is original, funny and she talks from her heart about the frustrations of suburban living, marriage, and raising a family. No longer is she willing to just be the funniest mother on her cul-de-sac; this New Jersey mom is now a regular on the comedy scene playing at the top clubs in NYC and surrounding areas.
Robin rose through the comedy ranks very quickly and can be heard on XM and Sirius satellite radio; she has been a guest numerous times on the Joey Reynolds Show on WOR coast-to-coast, on We Entertainment television and on Lifetime TV. Robin was a "Hot Topic" of Conversation on ABC's The View.
