ABC's "Nashville" actor Kyle Dean Massey and other outstanding writers, performers and digital creators from Broadway, television, film and other mediums will come together on Monday, February 22 at 7:00 PM for the Broadway Unlocked #giveback concert - an interactive, livestreamed benefit concert celebrating the work of the Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC) of Mount Sinai West and St. Luke's Hospitals and Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) in Kansas City, MO. The event will take place at WNYC / New York Public Radio's The Greene Space (44 Charlton Street at Varick Street). The evening will be livestreamed on www.YouTube.com/broadwayunlocked
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS serves as sponsor of the event, with Google Fiber hosting the livestreamed watch party and Hangout at Fiber Space in Kansas City, MO.
Live theatre exists in its own particular moment and space, which means that the communities that surround it are disconnected, by and large. At Broadway Unlocked, everything we do is driven by our passion to connect those communities. Whether it's through original content or technology and tools, connection and engagement is the spark of creation behind everything we dream up.
Once a year, we help Broadway takeover YouTube with one night of song and social responsibility called the #giveback concert - a livestreamed, interactive concert that combines live theatre with digital content and invites our fans across the world to be a part of something bigger and make a difference in their communities. Through a global online fundraising effort, as well as live events in multiple cities on the same night, Broadway Unlocked brings those who love and make theatre together to raise funds and awareness for survivors of interpersonal violence.
From now until the concert, theatre lovers from all over the world can visit IndieGoGo and contribute to the #giveback campaign. Our crowdfunding goal of $25,000 will go directly to CVTC and other local organizations across the U.S. that share a similar mission, like MOCSA in Kansas City, MO.
On Monday night, February 22, Broadway Unlocked will bring the community together to celebrate their achievements and raise even more funds, with the #giveback concert. The evening will include:
· a live red carpet broadcast and Q&A on the Broadway Unlocked Periscope channel
· a live audience of theatre-goers at WNYC's The Greene Space
· a livestreamed watch party at Google Fiber Space in Kansas City hosted by Google Fiber, Broadway Unlocked and MOCSA, in partnership with Egads Theatre Company and the Coterie Theatre
· a super-fan Hangout panel that will get up close and personal with their favorite stars
· and viewers around the world tuning into the Broadway Unlocked YouTube Channel for the Livestream.
Tickets for the live show at The Greene Space can be purchased through Eventbrite.
"I founded this event after one of my theatre family/friends was referred to the Crime Victims Treatment Center by the Hirschfeld Clinic and The Actors Fund. The center saved his life, and shortly thereafter, more and more of our theatre family came forward as survivors of interpersonal violence. They received free, life-saving treatment at CVTC" said Jessica Ryan, founder of Broadway Unlocked. "Violent crime affects one in six people - and everyone deserves help, whether they can afford it or not.
This year's concert is going to be bigger than ever, as our friends from Broadway and beyond join us for a multi-platform, interactive concert that is unlike anything Broadway has ever seen before. The mix of live theatre and digital media allows us put Broadway together with a huge global community and raise so much more than we could with a traditional model. Together, we've raised over $125,000 for survivors of assault, abuse and interpersonal violence since we started doing this and we're setting our sights on bringing that number up to $200,000 this year."
"Inclusivity has always been a core value of CVTC's mission, and is the heart of the Broadway Unlocked #GiveBack concert", says Susan Xenarios, Executive Director of CVTC. "The work we do can at times be dark and painful, but this celebratory event mirrors the expansive joy and hopefulness our clients experience with their healing at CVTC. How fortunate we are to be so supported by so many people who care about our meaningful work!"
Ticket prices are $100 for General Admission and $225 for VIP Supporters. The VIP ticket includes private, open bar, reserved seating for the concert and a gift. Proceeds from the#giveback Concert will benefit CVTC and MOCSA. The event is open to the public.
