Anna Kustera opened her first gallery in Soho, New York, at 41 Wooster Street in 1996. In just a few years, the gallery established itself as place to see innovative, cutting edge work and helped launch the careers of some of today's prominent artists. In 2000, the gallery merged with Jack Tilton and became known as the Jack Tilton/ Anna Kustera Gallery and operated out of the former Tilton Gallery location at 49 Greene Street in Soho through 2003. In 2004 a new venture was formed and the gallery opened in Chelsea at 520 West 21 Street as Kustera Tilton Gallery, later to become Anna Kustera Gallery.

From February 2012 through May 2013, the gallery was host to Family Business, a curated exhibition space created by renowned artist Maurizio Cattelan and long-time collaborator Massimiliano Gioni. The gallery moved out of its Chelsea location in the summer of 2013 and after a two year haitus, re-opened in Red Hook, Brooklyn, as KUSTERA PROJECTS in July 2015.
