Variety reports that Broadway's Kristin Chenoweth will star in and produce the ABC put pilot THE REAL FAIRY GODMOTHER. The prolific team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will executive produce through Zadan/Meron Productions
According to the report, the Tony winner would portray "a self-absorbed real housewife who learns that she's descended from a secret order of Fairy Godmothers and has an inescapable destiny to use her magical abilities to help those in need. As she begrudgingly executes her assigned weekly missions, she slowly begins to realize just how superficial and morally bankrupt her actual life is and, to the confusion of her dysfunctional family and friends, tries to get them all to be better people."THE REAL FAIRY GODMOTHER will be written by Alan Zachary & Michael Weiner (Broadway's FIRST DATE, SECONDHAND LIONS, upcoming musical 17 AGAIN, ABC's ONCE UPON A TIME), with 'Til Death' creators Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith serving as showrunners. While the project will not be a musical, Chenoweth's character will be singing on occassion, when breaking out in song fits organically into the storyline.
The project marks a reunion for Zadan, Meron and Chenoweth. The trio recently worked together on NBC's HAIRSPRAY LIVE!, as well as in 1999's ABC TV musical ANNIE, and the 2010 Broadway revival of PROMISES PROMISES.
