Kristin Chenoweth was last seen on Broadway in 2010's PROMISES PROMISES, and if the star has anything to say about it, she'll be back on stage soon - playing country legend Dolly Parton.
Parton, who wrote music and lyrics to the 2009 musical adaptation of 9 to 5, plans to put her life on stage. "I’m writing my life story as a musical for Broadway," the singer said in December. "I probably won’t be in it but I’ll find a way to introduce it somehow, maybe the older me."
Parton can be seen nationwide beginning this Friday on the big screen playing grandmother to NEWSIES' Jeremy Jordan in 'Joyful Noise'; Chenoweth's midseason NBC series 'GCB' debuts in March and she was reported to be attached to an ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY revival, though no dates or further plans for the project have been announced.
Tony Award winner Chenoweth - who released a country CD last year - seems a natural fit for the role, and the actress would "love to play [Dolly Parton]. What’s not to love about her...I heard she said that I should play her again, it all started with her saying that many years ago and of course I want to play her," Chenoweth enthused to Access Hollywood when the musical was mentioned, but she jokingly warned: "She better freakin’ hurry up and write it!"
In November 2010, Chenoweth was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for her achievements. She won a Tony Award for her role as Sally Brown in the Broadway musical You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, and is also celebrated for originating the role of Glinda in Wicked. In 2010, she appeared as Fran Kubelik in Promises, Promises alongside Sean Hayes.
She won an Emmy Award for her performance as Olive Snook in the television dramedy Pushing Daisies. Chenoweth is best known on TV for playing Annabeth Schott in The West Wing. She also had her own TV series, Kristin. Her film credits include Bewitched, The Pink Panther, Running With Scissors, Stranger Than Fiction, Four Christmases and RV.
