Stage and screen star Kristen Bell has agreed to reprise her celebrated role as the titular heroine of the spy-themed VERONICA MARS universe in a new feature film adaptation should the filmmakers reach their Kickstarter goal in the next 30 days.

Bell, along with the rest of the main cast members of the Cult TV series which ran for three seasons from 2004-2007, has joined with show creator Rob Thomas to create a Kickstarter campaign for the project.

The site, created by Thomas, proclaims: "Here it is. Our one shot to see a Veronica Mars movie happen. Kristen is in. I'm in. Let's do it!"

Also, Thomas writes of the rights challenges faced by the project and reveals a planned production start date: "Of course, Warner Bros. still owns Veronica Mars and we would need their blessing and cooperation to pull this off. Kristen and I met with the Warner Bros. brass, and they agreed to allow us to take this shot. They were extremely cool about it, as a matter of fact. Their reaction was, if you can show there's enough fan interest to warrant a movie, we're on board. So this is it. This is our shot. I believe it's the only one we've got. It's nerve-wracking. I suppose we could fail in spectacular fashion, but there's also the chance that we completely revolutionize how projects like ours can get made. No Kickstarter project ever has set a goal this high. It's up to you, the fans, now."

Thomas adds, "If the project is successful, our plan is to go into production this summer and the movie will be released in early 2014."

Bell herself offers a heartfelt dedication to a potential VERONICA MARS movie, stating, "I promise to give it my all. i promise to work my hardest to give everyone a little bit more Veronica, and i will be oh so honored to do so."

The fundraising has only just begun and the current tally is nearly halfway to its goal, with 30 days still to go, so a VERONICA MARS movie seems very likely to start shooting this Summer should the momentum be maintained and all go as planned.
