Valentina Kozlova announces the 9th annual International Ballet Competition, March 18-22, with the Awards Ceremony and Gala Performance on Saturday March 23rd. More than 100 talented dancers from around the world will again gather in New York to dance for contracts and scholarships to companies and schools around the world, including the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg.

The dancers are preparing solos and pas de deux selected from the VKIBC list this year. Dances include:

  • La Bayadere - The Golden Idol, Shades Variations, more
  • Fairy Doll - Variation by Legat
  • Swan Lake - BLACK SWAN Variation by Grigorovich
  • The Flames of Paris Pas de Deux by Vainonen and Chabukiani
  • La Fille Mal Gardee Pas de Deux, Act III by Gorsky
  • Laurencia variation - after Petipa
  • Talisman Pas de Deux - after Petipa
  • Walpurgis Nacht variation by Lavrovsky

and many more excerpts from the classics.

With the support once again of the Serge Lifar Foundation, Ms. Kozlova is able to offer four compulsory solos, two for men and two for women, from Lifar's "Suite en Blanc." Charles Jude, former etoile of the Paris Opera Ballet and a returning VKIBC judge, will coach the dancers in these stylish and challenging solos. The Lifar Foundation, for the second consecutive year, has also made a generous donation to the VKIBC family to be given to the best Senior Classical Competitor showing the most accurate performance of one of the solos. Last year, this award was presented to Claire Teysseire of France, currently with the Finnish National Ballet in Helsinki.

Andris Liepa (Russia) will once again chair the Panel of Judges, which will include

  • Charles Jude (France)
