Presented by Arts Brookfield, the Renaissance & Renewal concert marks the debut of the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra's (KCO) tenth anniversary. Taking place in the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place (230 Vesey St.) on Saturday, February 10 at 7:00pm, the concert celebrates the rebirth of Lower Manhattan since the KCO's inaugural performance in the Winter Garden in 2009. The evening will conclude with a world premiere performance of The Winter Garden Waltzes by KCO Founder, Gary S. Fagin, where the audience will rise to dance the waltz under the palms, a KCO tradition. The concert is free and open to the public.

The evening's program also features works by renowned American composer Aaron Copland, including Lincoln Portrait, with the stirring words of Abraham Lincoln narrated live onstage by Preet Bharara, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, as well as Copland's beloved Fanfare for the Common Man. Violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn returns for the KCO's tenth anniversary with her world-famous 1720 Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius violin to perform Ralph Vaughan Williams' stunning The Lark Ascending. A familiar presence at Brookfield Place, Elizabeth Pitcairn played the Red Violin in the KCO's inaugural concert in the Winter Garden 10 years ago, and it was her Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius that inspired the 1999 Academy Award-winning film "The Red Violin."

"It is an honor to host the launch of the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra's tenth anniversary at Brookfield Place," said Elysa Marden, Vice President, Arts Brookfield. "The combination of Elizabeth Pitcairn and her Red Violin, our special guest Preet Bharara, and the world premiere of Gary S. Fagin's The Winter Garden Waltzes is a magnificent way to celebrate 10 years."

The KCO is the only professional chamber orchestra based in Lower Manhattan. Founded by Gary S. Fagin in 2008, the KCO meshes the old and new together for unforgettable musical experiences. Gary S. Fagin is the KCO's Musical Director and has conducted, composed, and orchestrated across the country for ballet, Broadway and Off-Broadway, public radio, opera companies, and more.

"We're grateful to come full circle as we return to Brookfield Place to celebrate the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra's tenth anniversary season with extraordinary music from the KCO musicians and Elizabeth Pitcairn and the wise words of Abraham Lincoln delivered by Preet Bharara," Mr. Fagin said. "Over the last decade, we've committed to ambitious yet accessible programming, and touched tens of thousands of lives. On February 10, 2018, a program of Renaissance & Renewal in the soaring Winter Garden honors Lower Manhattan in all its resilience and looks to a bright future filled with music."

ABOUT KNICKERBOCKER CHAMBER ORCHESTRA (KCO)

Founded by Downtown resident Gary S. Fagin, an accomplished conductor, composer and educator, the KCO is the only professional chamber orchestra based in Lower Manhattan. The KCO is a meshing of the old and the new - classical music played by top contemporary musicians, performed in the fast-growing neighborhoods of old New York, in venues steps away from cobblestone streets and wireless skyscrapers. Until the KCO was founded, there were few programs in Lower Manhattan devoted to the great classical music repertoire. The KCO offers interactive, educational outreach programs and provides classical music ensembles for downtown public and private events.
