Kimberly Hebert Star In The Public Theatre's THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS, Previews 10/21

Kimberly Hebert Gregory, who has been hailed for her fine stage performances by publications including the New York Times and Backstage, stars in the The Brother/Sister Plays, written by the Tarell Alvin McCraney, opening Oct. 21 at New York's Public Theatre. Gregory portrays the role(s) of ‘Aunt Elgua/Shun' in this breakthrough trilogy written by one of the most celebrated young writers working in contemporary American Theater.

The Brother/Sister Plays, selected as an NEA Outstanding New American Play as part of the NEA New Play Development Program, are dangerous, modern-day stories of kinship, love, heartache and coming-of-age. McCraney speaks with authenticity about a world that is gritty and lyrical, urban and mythic.

Kimberly Hébert Gregory appeared in the '09 Spring debut of The Brother/Sister Plays at Princeton University's McCarter Theatre, having also participated in the play's previous workshops and readings. Among Gregory's television and film credits are roles on I Think I Love My Wife, Gossip Girl, New Amsterdam and The Black Donnellys. Gregory's work in theater includes the thrill of playing the role of ‘Shenzi' for a year in the national tour of Disney's monumental spectacle, The Lion King. Nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award for ‘Actress in a Supporting Role in a Play' for Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery at the Chicago Theatre Company, Gregory has had the pleasure of performing on some of the country's greatest regional stages. Amen Corner at the Goodman Theatre, Nickel and Dimed at the Steppenwolf Theatre, Waiting to be Invited at the Victory Gardens Theater, and Julius Caesar at Chicago Shakespeare Theater are some of the many productions in which she has appeared. A proud alumnae of The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, Gregory has walked the same halls as some of the entertainment industry's greatest talents, most notably Beyonce Knowles and Chandra Wilson. A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Gregory joins such distinguished alumnae as Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Susan-Lori Parks and Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein. Gregory studied and trained in classical theater in London and received a BA in Psychology from Mount Holyoke College.

McCraney's The Brother/Sister Plays, centered around an extended family and community in the Bayou, are thrilling audiences by pushing the boundaries of language, form, and sexuality in provocative and poetic ways. The trilogy includes:
