Two-time Academy Award-winning stage and screen superstar Kevin Spacey is capping off his tenure as artistic director of London's acclaimed theatrical venue The Old Vic with a performance of the play CLARENCE DARROW, and on opening night earlier this week the actor wittily lashed out at an audience member whose cell phone interrupted an important moment in the drama.
Following several rings from the audience member's phone during a climactic speech in the politically-themed bio-play, Spacey directly addressed the individual, asserting, "If you don't answer that, I will!"
Subsequently, Spacey was met with a round of applause from the appreciative audience.
Following the performance, Spacey eloquently remarked on his time spent at The Old Vid, sharing, "Clarence Darrow was a unique and courageous man. Several of my favourite actors have played Darrow... Henry Fonda, Orson Welles and Spencer Tracy. Wanting to get up on my beloved Old Vic stage in our 10th anniversary season was also important to me. And taking on a play that I feel very close to seems right. Finally, throw in that I've never done a one-man play, or performed in the round before, and this production offered me two firsts. Plus, you know I love a challenge."

The official description of CLARENCE DARROW is as follows: "Kevin Spacey returns to the role of pioneering lawyer Clarence Darrow after the critically acclaimed Old Vic production of Inherit the Wind and the PBS film Darrow. Thea Sharrock directs him in Rintels' compelling one man tour-de-force in which the larger than life Darrow with his legendary wit relives some of his pivotal experiences, including the infamous Scopes 'Monkey' and 'Thrill Killers' trials which established his reputation as a courtroom giant and civil rights hero."
