Lapham's Quarterly (Editor and Publisher Lewis Lapham) announced today their annual gala, the DECADES BALL: The 1780s, will take place on Monday, June 1 at Gotham Hall (1356 Broadway). The gala will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The evening will also celebrate the 80th birthday of Lewis Lapham, who established the acclaimed literary magazine in 2007.

The evening's entertainment includes lively readings and performances, which highlight voices from the stage, music, and literature of the era. Performers include Kevin Kline reading Richard Brinsley Sheridan; Jonathan Groff reprising his celebrated turn as King George III in Lin-Manuel Miranda's acclaimed new musical Hamilton; Mary-Louise Parker reading an excerpt from Choderlos de Laclos's Dangerous Liaisons; F. Murray Abraham reading from the journals of William Maclay, one of the members of the first U.S. Senate under the then new constitution; Dakin Matthews, reading two of Benjamin Franklin's letters; and Julia Bullock singing Mozart. Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, will emcee the evening.

The Folio Society will present the Janus Prize to the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stacy Schiff, introduced by Elinor Lipman.

The evening will celebrate Lapham's Quarterly's eighth year of publication. The Benefit Committee includes such esteemed artists and patrons as Alec Baldwin, Jackie and Nick Drexel, Barbara Fleischman, and Deborah Landesman.

Tickets for the DECADES BALL are $500 for individuals; with tables available for $10,000, $25,000, and $50,000.

• Benefactor level tables for $25,000 include premier seating, acknowledgment on all event materials and in the video presentation during the event, and a full-page program advertisement.

• Sponsor level tables of $50,000 and above include premier seating, acknowledgment on all event print and online materials and in the video presentation during the event, and a full-page program advertisement, and a VIP photo opportunity with the stars of the evening.

LEWIS LAPHAM is the founder, editor, and publisher of Lapham's Quarterly, and editor emeritus of Harper's Magazine. Lapham in 2007 was inducted into the American Society of Magazine Editors Hall of Fame. He is the author of thirteen books, among them Money and Class in America, The Wish for Kings, Waiting for the Barbarians and Theater of War. Between 2010 and 2014 Lapham produced "The World in Time," a weekly podcast for Bloomberg News, and his documentary film, The American Ruling Class has become part of the curriculum in many of the nation's schools and colleges. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Lapham has lectured at many of the nation's leading universities, including Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, and Stanford and the Universities of Michigan, Virginia, and Oregon.

LAPHAM'S QUARTERLY is an award-winning and critically-acclaimed journal of history and ideas, praised by the historian David McCullough as "a godsend and a genuine treasure," and by the novelist Dave Eggers as "brilliant and much needed." Lapham's Quarterly was a National Magazine Award Finalist in 2011 for its issues on "Religion," "Arts & Letters," and "The City."
