"Bright Lights," a new concert series presented by Dreamlight Theatre, will feature the music of Georgia Stitt and Sam Davis on Monday, June 5th at the Triad (158 W. 72nd St., between Broadway and Columbus).
The series was founded as a way of showcasing new and emerging composers and lyricists in musical theatre.
Performing at the concert will be
Lauren Kennedy (
Monty Python's Spamalot, Side Show, Sunset Boulevard),
Will Chase (
Miss Saigon, Lennon, Aida, The Full Monty, Rent),
Keith Byron Kirk (
Elegies, Miss Saigon, The Piano Lesson),
Andrea Burns (
Songs for a New World, Beauty and the Beast, The Full Monty), and Sally Wilfert (
Assassins, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer).
Stitt is a composer, lyricist, musical director, conductor, arranger, and pianist. She has written several works for the theater, including the two-act musical,
The Water, written with Jeff Hylton and Tim Werenko, and
Lizan, with Bil Wright. At present she is developing two new musicals:
Big Red Sun, a WWII-era story with playwright John Jiler, and
Sing Me A Happy Song, a musical revue with composer/lyricist
David Kirshenbaum. She has recently recorded
Alphabet City Cycle, a song cycle for soprano and violin with lyricist
Marcy Heisler, which was premiered by the New Voices Collective, of which she is a founding member.
Davis is a composer, arranger, conductor, and pianist. Broadway credits include pianist and/or conductor for over 15 shows, including the revivals of
Cabaret, Follies, and
Into the Woods. Other New York credits include dance music arranger for
Sinatra at Radio City, as well as
Dr. Sex, A Woman of Will, Belle Epoque, and
Dream True. As a composer, Davis is a founding member of the New Voices Collective at Symphony Space, and a winner of the Jonathan Larson Award. A evening of his work was recently performed at Joe's Pub, and his new song cycle
, Dysfunctional Fables, will be premiered at Symphony Space this fall. Other upcoming projects include Kander and Ebb's
Curtains at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles.
