As first reported on EWonline, actress Kelly Bishop will be joining the cast of Amy Sherman-Palladino's new ABC Family show BUNHEADS. It was previously reported that Tony-award winner Sutton Foster will play the lead role in the new series.
BUNHEADS is the tale of a Las Vegas showgirl (Foster) who impulsively marries a man, moves to his sleepy coastal town, and takes an uneasy role at her new mother-in-law's dance school. Bishop will have the recurring role of the mother-in-law, Fanny. Production on the series is scheduled to begin this spring. Bishop and Foster recently co-starred in Round About Theater Company's Tony-winning revival 'Anything Goes' on Broadway. Foster currently stars as Reno Sweeney in the show, while Bishop portrayed Evangeline Harcourt before departing in January.
After working for a dozen years as a dancer, Kelly Bishop's breakout role was Sheila in Michael Bennett's 'A Chorus Line' for which she garnered Tony and Drama Desk awards. Her Broadway credits include Neil Simon's Proposals, The Last Night of Ballyhoo and Six Degrees of Separation at Lincoln Center. Her film work includes An Unmarried Woman, Dirty Dancing and Miami Rhapsody. On TV, Bishop starred for seven years as Emily Gilmore on “The Gilmore Girls.”
