Kelli Barclay, Richard J. Hinds, Randy Skinner and More to Lead GOODSPEED MOVERS BOOT CAMP in NYC

Goodspeed Musicals wants to help singers and actors to succeed in dance auditions. In keeping with our mission to educate and support artists, Goodspeed will offer its first Goodspeed Movers Boot Camp January 6 - 8, 2017 at Pearl Studios in NYC.

This new program is an intensive weekend designed to alleviate your dance audition fears and increase your chances of booking roles that require basic dance ability. The nearly 24 hours of programming will be led by professional working choreographers and a casting director who want you to thrive in the audition room. This is a unique opportunity to hone your basic dance skills in a safe, judgment-free environment. You'll learn how to pick up basic choreography quickly and have the chance to connect with industry professionals. Goodspeed Movers Boot Camp is an unintimidating way to take your dance audition to the next level and advance your career.

Hinds (Broadway/Off-Broadway credits include Jekyll and Hyde (Associate Director/Choreographer), Il Divo - A Musical Affair (Assistant Director) and Here Lies Love (Associate Director/Choreographer), Randy Skinner (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, and Astaire nominations for his choreography for Dames at Sea and 42nd Street.), Casting Director Paul Hardt (The Bodyguard National Tour, Come Fly Away), Performer Kristyn Pope (a Rockette in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Lady, Be Good (City Center Encores!), and Composer / Music Director John McMahon (Prince of Central Park, Off-Broadway's Oh! Kay!, Ruthless! and Whoop Dee Doo!).

The professional teaching artists, all with casting influence, have designed a program complete with a mock dance audition followed by feedback from the team. In addition, participants will benefit from individual attention and support; instruction in physical conditioning for movers; classes specifically dedicated to picking up choreography quickly; basic tap, jazz, hip-hop, partnering, and contemporary rep classes; and Q&A sessions with instructors. Lunch is included in the registration fee.

Application Deadline is December 22, 2016. Please include with your Application form a brief cover letter explaining why you are interested in the program, a current headshot and résumé, and a deposit of $50 in the form of a check payable to "The Goodspeed Opera House Foundation." Notification of acceptance will be by December 26, with final tuition payment of $325 due by December 30, 2016 . Parker Esse choreographed Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis' world premiere A Bed and A Chair: A New York Love Affair (New York City Center's Encores!) and is a five-time Helen Hayes best choreography nominee, receiving the award for Arena Stage's Oklahoma!. Mr. Esse directed and choreographed Crazy For You and West Side Story (Finger Lakes Music Theatre Festival). Richard J. Hinds is the Associate Choreographer for the Broadway-bound musical Come From Away. Richard has been the Associate/Assistant on Disney's Newsies (Broadway/National Tour), Jekyll and Hyde (Broadway), Il Divo: A Musical Affair (Broadway), Here Lies Love (Off-Broadway/West End), 9 to 5 (National/UK Tours) and Disney's High School Musical (National/International Tours). Regional credits include La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, 5th Ave Theatre, Ogunquit Playhouse, Gateway Playhouse, Flat Rock Playhouse and Paper Mill Playhouse. Paul Hardt is a NY based Casting Director. Paul is happy to begin work on his 14th year with Goodspeed (favorite projects include Seven Brides...; Carousel; and Hello, Dolly, to name a few). He currently is the casting director for The Bodyguard National Tour, as well as West Side Story which is currently touring major opera houses in Europe, Asia and Israel. Paul has also worked with Twyla Tharp on the Broadway and National tours of Come Fly Away, and the Broadway bound Josephine: a new musical, directed and choreographed by Joey McKneely which recently had a sold out run at the Asolo Rep..

John McMahon is a Music Director and Conductor whose credits include the "Not Since Carrie" Broadway production of Prince of Central Park and the revival of the Gershwin musical Oh! Kay!. Off-Broadway, he was heard playing for the entire run of the hit musical Ruthless! and the revue Whoop Dee Doo!. A graduate of Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where he musical directed three USO tours, entertaining troops in Germany and Iceland. He was the musical conductor and co-creator of the musical revue Bottoms Up!. He directed the original revue of the music of Rick Crom's Absolutely Rude! and musical directed his Star Trek parody musical Space Trek. He composed original music for the "Valley of the Dolls" spoof Below the Valley of the Dolls and collaborated with Broadway lyricist Ira Gasman (The Life) on several cabaret songs. A Bistro Award Winner, he is a frequent cabaret performer, working with many performers such as Andre De Shields, Joan Rivers, Heather MacRae, Marta Sanders, Lea DeLaria, and the legendary Mr. Ruby Rims. McMahon can be heard on the soundtrack of the critically acclaimed Japanese made-for-television movie A Table for Two. He composed the music and co-wrote the book for the musical Satan's School for Girls, which was produced at the Dudley Riggs Theater in Minneapolis and nominated for a Jeffrey award for its Chicago run at the Circle Theater. His original revue That's My New York, written with lyricist Jay Jeffries, enjoyed a successful four month run at Judy's Chelsea and won a Manhattan Association of Cabarets (MAC) Award for the song "Where's Shirley?". His jazz arrangement of Sondheim's "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" can be heard on Lea DeLaria's CD "Play it Cool" on Warner Brother's jazz label. As Laura Bell Bundy's longtime accompanist and musical director, he conducting both her cabaret acts at Joe's Pub and at Feinstein's in NYC. He is musical director of the musical Lovely, starring Kelly Briggs and Jerry Christakos, which won the 2003 New York Nightlife Award, was nominated for a 2003 MAC Award, and tours with it extensively throughout the country. McMahon and Jeffries have completed their musical Friends Like These, which won the award for Most Promising Musical in the musical reading series at The Players Theater in NYC. Along with performing his one-man show, McMahon and his lyricist Jay Jeffries are currently developing their newest musical about Aesop, Love And Other Fables, which received a public reading at Chicago's Windy City Playhouse in April 2015.

Kristyn Pope is excited to be a part of the Goodspeed Movers Boot Camp this winter! Her NYC performing credits include Radio City Christmas Spectacular (Rockette/Swing), Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (City Center Encores!), and Lady, Be Good (City Center Encores!). Kristyn has also performed in various regional musical theatre productions, including 42nd Street, My One and Only, and Hello, Dolly at Goodspeed. Her teaching experience includes subbing/instructing classes for groups at Broadway Dance Center and leading classes/mock auditions for the Rockette Experience. She has also served as an adjudicator and taught Master Classes for dance studios/organizations throughout the United States, including Dance Masters, Encore Dance Competition, the Victoria Theatre Association, The Des Moines Performing Arts Center, the Hippodrome Foundation, Playhouse Square (Cleveland, OH), Oklahoma City University, Point Park University, Indiana University, and Nebraska High School Theatre Awards. Kristyn holds a BA in Psychology from Northwestern University.

Randy Skinner is an award-winning director, choreographer, and performer whose work has been seen on Broadway, National and International tours, and Regional theatres. He received Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, and Astaire nominations for his choreography for Dames at Sea and the same for 42nd Street. He also choreographed the opening number for the 2001 Tony Awards television broadcast. Other shows include Show Boat (NY Philharmonic/PBS); Ain't Broadway Grand (Tony, Outer Critics nominations); Irving Berlin's White Christmas (Tony, Drama Desk nominations); State Fair (Outer Critics nomination); After The Night and The Music (MTC/Biltmore Theatre); Lend Me A Tenor The Musical (West End); Do Re Mi; Of Thee I Sing; Face The Music; No No Nanette; Gentlemen Prefer Blondes; , and Lady Be Good (the last six at City Center Encores); Gotta Dance! Among Mr. Skinner's performances are roles in A Chorus Line; Gypsy; Dames At Sea; Hello, Dolly; Pal Joey; Once More With Feeling; High Spirits; Walking Happy; and Babes in Arms, directed by the legendary Ginger Rogers. His "taps" can be heard on the recordings Lucky In The Rain, Sondheim at the Movies, 110 In The Shade, and Strike Up The Band. Mr. Skinner is a graduate of Ohio State University and he regularly teaches master classes throughout the country at universities and festivals.
