Chinese Mother Jewish Daughter Productions will present a developmental reading of Madame: The Musical on October 10 at Ripley-Grier Studios. The work was previously developed at the New York Musical Theater Festival's inaugural reading series in 2012.
Madame: The Musical is billed as such: "Sex, secrets, and spells can all be found within the walls of Madame Jarreau's, a brothel buried deep in the Louisiana Bayou where the ladies were all born male, and where Poe, a troubled teen, comes looking for refuge and stumbles into a journey of love, sisterhood, and self-discovery."
Kecia Lewis-Evans (Leap of Faith, Drowsy Chaperone, Chicago...) and Larry Hamilton (Captain Louie) lead the cast as the brothel's caretaker Clover, and Poe, respectively. The show employs gender-neutral casting for the "girls" at Jarreau's, which includes Tommy Martinez (Newsies) as Ruby, and Kelcy Griffin (Memphis, Dreamgirls) as Victoria.
The full cast includes Michael Barr, Mick Bleyer, Cole Burden (Les Miserables), Peter Davenport (Sound of Music), Hayley Hoffmeister, Alli Foss (Mamma Mia) , Rhys Gilyet, Dan Kohler, Crystal Mosser, Damian Norfleet, Gavyn Pickens, Charles West (Scarlet Pimpernel, Cyrano), Virginia Ann Woodruff (Leap of Faith, The Color Purple), Gayle Samuels (Sunset Boulevard, Grind), Ryan Speakman, Michael Jayne Walker (South Pacific).
