Kaylee MacKnight (Creator of Drunk Musicals) is throwing a benefit concert to benefit the This Star Won't Go Out Foundation that helps families who are effected by childhood cancer. This Star Won't Go Out strives to help "lighten the burden for families through the giving of financial grants and community involvement".
Joining her will be the New American Songbook Orchestra. The New American Songbook Orchestra is a fresh, new orchestral ensemble based in New York City that seeks to answer the question: What does it mean to be American? Promoting diversity and inclusion, the New American Songbook Orchestra implements materials that to have gone by the wayside in the eyes of popular culture and mainstream media by uncovering composers- such as William Grant Still- that were overlooked because of the color of their skin, adding to the standard canon new works of living composers that already have and continue to impact the American musical landscape, and promoting American artists of all ethnicities, all sexual and social identities, and all genders.
Also booked to join her are composers Michael Mott, Selda and Derek, esteemed opera and pop singer Eric Anthony Lopez, Joshua Doss (Drunk Musicals) and singer/songwriter Morgan Reilly.
Tickets are $10 through Purplepass, $15 at the door. The event is set to take place April 30th at 7pm at The Duplex (61 Christopher Street).
