The Daily Star reports that Katy Perry may be the next celebrity in line to join the ROCK OF AGES film, alongside Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige and, reportedly, her husband Russell Brand.
While his would-be role has not yet been defined, Russell Brand plans to be a part of the Rock of Ages film if scheduling can be worked out. At the recent Hop premiere in Hollywood, Brand told EW: "I have to make sure I see me wife [Katy Perry] enough, but if we can work out the schedule, then yeah, I want to do it," Brand said, adding that such prospects looked good. "Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, rock music of the '80s - you can't go wrong. And I've already got the hair. I am way ahead of them on that account."
Katy Perry has said that she'd "love to" be a part of the film, and allegely hopes to stop by the Miami shoot in between her Teenage Dream tour to play the role of one of the strippers.
ROCK OF AGES opened on April 7, 2009 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre to critical acclaim, following an off Broadway engagement in the fall of 2008. The Broadway production was nominated for Five 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and New Line Records released the Original Broadway Cast Recording in July 2009, featuring 28 songs from the show. The New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. film of the musical, directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), was originally scheduled to be released in 2011. As previously reported, a new release date has now been set for the film: June 1, 2012.
Although there's no leading man cast to play Drew yet - open casting in currently in process, it has been confirmed that Julianne Hough will play Sherrie and Tom Cruise will play Stacee Jaxx. Amy Adams is being recruited for the role of the reporter, Regina. The role had been offered to Anne Hathaway, however, her previous film committments has prevented her participation.
The music that 'ignited a generation' is heating up Broadway in ROCK OF AGES. The classic rock love story of the decade erupts into Broadway's best party, all to the sounds of such feel-good, sing-out-loud songs as Every Rose Has Its Thorn, I Wanna Know What Love Is, Here I Go Again, Don't Stop Believin' and more. This five-time Tony nominated musical is nothin' but a good time.
