History Matters/Back to the Future will present FORGOTTEN TREASURERS: An Evening of Scenes by Historic Women Playwrights Read by Luminaries of Stage, Film, and Television. The performance will take place at 7:00pm on Monday, February 17th at The Helen Mills Theatre 139 West 26th Street (between 7th and 6th Avenues). Tickets are by invitation only.

A concert reading of scenes from plays by great women playwrights of the past -- Zoe Akins, Jane Bowles, Mary Chase, Alice Childress, Rachel Crothers, Angelina W. Grimke, Lillian Hellman, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Maurine Dallas Watkins, and Edith Wharton - will demonstrate the relevance of their vision for the present and the future.

The reading will be performed by acclaimed actors Kathleen Chalfant ("House of Cards," The Laramie Project, Red Dog Howls, and Angels in America), Maryann Plunkett, (The Apple Family Plays, and Me and My Girl on Bway) and Tamara Tunie ("As the World Turns," "Law & Order: SVU," and Flight with Denzel Washington) will be directed by Joan Vail Thorne. Stage directions will be read by playwright/actor Jessica Dickey and continuity will be read by playwright/actor Tracy Thorne.

Introductory remarks will be given by renowned playwright Tina Howe.

History Matters/Back Back to the Future promotes the study and production of women's plays of the past in high schools, colleges and universities, and theaters throughout the country and encourages responses to those plays from contemporary playwrights. Their current initiative is The One Play At A time Initiative which encourages professors around the country to teach one class period on a historic women playwright per semester. The organizational founding directors include Sallie Bingham, Jill Dolan, JAnn Leeming, Helen Mills, Joan Vail Thorne, and Ludovica Villar-Hauser.
