Kate Wetherhead Hosts OBAMARAMA Concert at the Duplex Tonight, 9/22

OBAMARAMA Songs for Justice! fundraiser cabaret, tonight, September 22nd, will present original material from emerging writers, with proceeds going to the Obama 2012 campaign. 

Kate Wetherhead (Co-producer, writer and star of SUBMISSIONS ONLY) will host the event, which features Gilbert Bailey (Scottsboro Boys, Philadelphia Theater Company), Justin Barnette (Hairspray National Tour), Matthew Bauman (Encores! Pipe Dream), Christine Bokhour (Chicago), Allyson Kaye Daniel (The Color Purple National Tour), Patrick Lane (Tales of the City at A.C.T.), Andrew Leggieri (Spamalot National Tour), Lexi Rhoades (SISTAS the musical), and Mike Shultz (Fiddler on the Roof National Tour).

Contributing writers (many of whom are alum from NYU's prestigious Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program) include Danny Abosch, Maria Alexandra Beech, Raymond Bokhour, Thirza Defoe, John Dietrich, Dewey Fleszar, Jesse Goldman, John Grimmett, Shoshana Greenberg, Derek Hassler, Karl Michael Johnson, Sujin Kim, Laura Kleinbaum, Teresa Lotz, Daphna Maman, Sarah Rebell, Jeffrey Smith, Rona Siddiqui and Patricia Weinstein. 

Special guests singer/songwriters include BranDon Anderson, Leenya Rideout (Company), Nicole Van Giesen (Cabaret), and Emmy winner Wesley Whatley (The Muppet's  "Yes Virginia" & "I Believe"). 

OBAMARAMA Songs for Justice! is co-produced by Grammy Award Winner Thirza Defoe, Jesse Goldman, Teresa Lotz and Sarah Rebell. Amy Anders Corcoran directs, with musical direction by Rona Siddiqui. According to Ms. Rebell, "it is so important, as songwriters, to use our art to create a connection to and a dialogue with our community at large, to try to give back to the world around us, and help to encourage the social change we envision for this country."
