Inside Broadway's Executive Director Michael Presser is pleased to announce that Tony Award-winner Karen Ziemba will be a special guest performer at Inside Broadway's 2011 Broadway Beacon Awards, being held at 5:30pm on June 23rd, 2011 at the historic Players Club at Gramercy Park. FOX5 reporter Julie Chang will serve as emcee and the event will honor recent Tony-winner John Larroquette of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, stage, film, & TV star Brooke Shields, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and managing partner & co-founder of Stonehenge Partners, Ofer Yardeni.
Karen Ziemba received the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award for her portrayal of The Wife in Contact at Lincoln Center Theatre. For her performance as Georgia Hendricks in the Kander and Ebb musical Curtains, she received the Outer Critics Circle Award and was nominated for the Tony, Drama Desk and L.A.'s Ovation Award. Other appearances on and off-Broadway include, Never Gonna Dance (Tony nomination, Outer Critics Circle Award); Steel Pier (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle nominations); And The World Goes ‘Round (Drama Desk Award), I Do! I Do! (Drama Desk nomination), Chicago, A Chorus Line, 42ND Street, Crazy For You, and leading roles in the New York City Opera productions of 11O In The Shade and The Most Happy Fella. Brooke Shields has appeared in a number of films, television series and Broadway productions in a career spanning more than thirty years. On Broadway she has starred in Chicago, Cabaret, Wonderful Town, and Grease and will soon step into the role of Morticia in the hit Broadway production of The Addams Family. On television, she starred in this NBC sitcom Suddenly, Susan, earning two Golden Globe nominations. She also went on to star in Lipstick Jungle for NBC and appeared on several episodes of FOX's That 70's Show.
Since her election as City Council Speaker,
Christine Quinn has established herself as a champion for working families, fighting for policies and services that are critical to the lives of real New Yorkers. She has worked to make the Council more responsive to the needs of all New Yorkers, and dramatically increased transparency and accountability. Quinn has developed a reputation for finding innovative solutions, and furthering policies that are both creative and fiscally responsible. In her four years as Speaker, she has taken on a wide range of issues in such areas as public safety, environmental protection, early childhood education, hunger and nutrition and affordable housing.
Ofer Yardeni has completed over $3 billion in real estate transactions during his career and continues to be active in acquiring and managing a diverse portfolio of real estate assets including commercial, retail and residential properties. He is an active supporter of the arts, and infuses lifestyle and community as an added value in all the Stonehenge properties with activities involving partnerships with The Art Students League of New York, a curatorship agreement with The Film Society of Lincoln Center to host screenings of films which do not reach the festival schedule for residents of apartment buildings under Stonehenge management.
Now in its 29th year, Inside Broadway develops and produces touring equity musical productions as well as vital after school arts programs that allow students to interact with professionals in the field and experience theatre hands-on. The annual cocktail reception and awards show is held to support Inside Broadway's mission of bringing the joys of theatre to New York City's under-served public school students. Inside Broadway was established in 1982 at the invitation of
Bernard B. Jacobs, the late President of
The Shubert Organization, as an effort to create a student ticket program for New York City schools students. Today, Inside Broadway develops and produces touring equity musical productions as well as a wide range of educational programs that allow students to interact with professionals in the field and experience theatre hands-on in the classroom.
