Broadway and cabaret star Karen Mason will celebrate the release of her
latest recording, The Sweetest Of Nights, with a two-week Thursday
through Monday run at The Encore (226 West 47th Street, NYC). The
show will open on Thursday, October 27 and run through Monday, November 7,
with all shows starting at 9pm, except Friday shows at 7pm.
The Sweetest Of
Nights will include performances from new CD, including standards like
"My Foolish Heart," "Let's Face The Music and Dance," "Almost Like
Being In Love," and "The Winner Takes It All," from Mamma Mia!, the
Broadway hit in which she created the role of Tanya. Christopher Denny, who arranged
much of the recording, will serve as musical director for the evening.Mason is currently starring in You Might As Well Live, a one-person
play about Dorothy Parker, as part of the New York Musical Theatre
Festival. The production is directed by Guy Stroman, with book and
music by Norman Mathews and lyrics by Dorothy Parker. Performances
will be at the 45th Street Theatre and run September 22 through October
2. Mason received 2002
Drama Desk nomination for her performance in Mamma Mia! She also stood by as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, which she performed on Broadway and in Los Angeles for three years. Other
Broadway credits include Jerome Robbins' Broadway, Play Me A Country
Song and Torch Song Trilogy. Off-Broadway credits include Carnival
(1993 Drama Desk Nomination), And The World Goes 'Round (Outer Critics
Circle Award) and Karen Mason Sings Broadway, Beatles and Brian. An
eight-time MAC Award winner, Mason won the 2005 MAC for Major
Female Vocalist of the Year.
