C.O.A.L. (confessions of a liar) by David Brian Colbert, will receive a reading in Manhattan as part of The Fundamental Theater Projects Bi-annual Reading Series- MASS RHETORIC. Each play in the series represents one of the five cannons of rhetoric: Style, Arrangement, Memory, Delivery and Invention.

C.O.A.L. (confessions of a liar), winner of the Araca Works Playwright competition in 2011, will represent the cannon of Style for this festival.

The reading is directed by Craig Baldwin and will once again feature Christiane Noll (Chaplin (Drama Desk Nomination) Ragtime (Tony Nomination).

Joining Noll for this iteration will be:

Joaquina Kalukango (Mountaintop - Arena Stage and Alley Theater, Eve Ensler's Emotional Creature, Hurt Village (Drama Desk Nomination, Theater World Award)

Keith Randolph Smith (Fences, King Hedley II, Come Back Little Sheba), and

Charlie Plummer (HBO's "Boardwalk Empire", Far From Heaven - Williamstown Theater Festival, Christmas Story- National Tour)

C.O.A.L. (confessions of a liar) takes us on a journey through the mind and life of a confessed sociopath known to us only as Coal.

Coal, a disenfranchised survivor of abuse comes to terms with the steps he took to escape his lot and change his truth, in a small, small town...and brings to light the questions,

...What is the truth in a society built on little white lies?

...At what lengths will one go to change the truth?

...Does the truth even matter?

...Well...Does it?
