Founded in 2003, the mission of KaNu Dance Theater is to promote change and peace in Haiti and around the world, by sharing with the world Haitian heritage, history, culture, and educating our spectators through contemporary modern and Afro-Caribbean Dance. According to St. Vil-Ulysse KaNu is an abbreviation for "Ka pa Nou" in Haitian-Kreyol which means "our situation". KaNu Dance Theater hopes to be able to continue to share "our situation" or better yet "KaNu" through dance, theater and song. KaNu has performed at educational and cultural institutions throughout the New York -metropolitan area and proudly participated in fundraising events for Haitian earthquake relief including the Rebuilding Haiti: Against All Odds conference at the United Nations, the "Build Haiti Foundation" one-year memorial event in Columbia, Maryland and at the Haitian Embassy in Washington.
