KARLA HAS A VOICE Announced At The Park Theatre Image

After roles in Channel 4's Pure (Libby), ITV's Unforgotten (Sandra Rayworth) and a lead alongside Sharon Small and Hugo Speer in Acorn TV's new cop drama (coming to a UK channel later this year) London Kills (Billie Fitzgerald) - actor/writer/singer-songwriter Tori Allen-Martin returns to the stage with her furious new play, KARLA HAS A VOICE. Tori who was named as one of the BBC'S New Talent Hotlist in 2017 is excited to be premiering the new work in a reading at The Park as part of the Prism Project on Wednesday April 10th at 4pm. The reading is open to all, industry and public alike and tickets are free via Eventbrite.

Karla is a writer, and she has something to say. She has something to say about being mixed race, and about being a woman, but the problem is nobody will let her say it. So now, she has something to say about that too. Except she's been so busy trying to find herself in a world that says she can't, that she's lost the part of herself that tells her she can. Who would you be if the world stopped telling you how to be? Karla has a voice, and she's begging you to let her use it.

Based entirely on Tori's own experiences and frustrations as a mixed race writer and actor in the industry, KARLA HAS A VOICE is Tori's own furious debate with the gatekeepers and a look at the subtle ways we are constantly held down and told we're not quite good enough. KARLA HAS A VOICE is for anyone who has a story of their own, for anyone who wants to live their life on their own terms, for anyone who feels stifled by who they're expected to be.

Tori's last play, a one woman show entitled THE HARDEST ONE sold out The Other Palace twice and led to Tori spending much of this year developing the work for television. On stage Tori was most recently seen as Justice on the Berlin leg of the Rock of Ages UK tour and before that she received rave reviews in new musical H.R.HAITCH at the Union Theatre, for which she is a recipient of the Craig Dodd Prize. Tori founded multi award nominated theatre company Interval Productions in 2009 and has produced eight original theatre productions under that banner including STREETS for which she received an Off West End Nomination for Most Promising Playwright. Television includes: London Kills (PGMTV/Acorn TV) Unforgotten (ITV); Pure (Drama Republic/Channel 4); and Cleaning Up (Sister Pictures/ITV).

A stellar cast join Tori for this reading, comprising Laura Jayne Ayres (Safe by Alexis Gregory - London Theatre Workshop, How The Vote Was Won -Bunker Theatre), Lucy May-Barker (Sophie Sheridan in MAMMA MIA! -Novello Theatre, London and UK & International Tours, Ilse in Spring Awakening -Lyric Hammersmith/Novello Theatre, London, Marina in Earthquakes in London and Millie in Really Old Like Forty Five -National Theatre, London), Kola Bokinni (Hunter Killer - Millennium Films, Black Mirror - Netflix, Top Boy 3 - Netflix), Izuka Hoyle (Mary Seton in Mary Queen of Scots - Working Title, Emily Davidson in Sylvia - Old Vic, Dani in Clique Season 2 - BBC) Matthew Marrs (Howards End - BBC, River City - BBC Scotland), Timothy O'Hara (Shakespeare in Love (original cast) - Noel Coward, Little Mermaid (original cast) - The Egg, Bath, Christoper Wren in The Mousetrap - St. Martins Theatre), and Tosh Wanogho-Maud (Jimmy Early in Dreamgirls - Savoy Theatre, West End, Joe in Showboat - New London Theatre, The Book of Mormon (original cast) - Prince of Wales Theatre, West End).
