Broadway rocker Justin Matthew Sargent, best known for his star turn as "Drew" in Broadway's Rock of Ages, will join the company of Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark as the Peter Parker / Spider-Man Alternate. Sargent will play select performances at the Foxwoods Theatre (213 West 42nd Street) with a varied week to week performance schedule.
Jake Epstein played his final performance as the alternate on Saturday, August 10, 2013 in order to begin rehearsals for his role as the legendary Gerry Goffin in Beautiful - The Carole King Musical on Broadway.
"Very few shows on Broadway require their leads to have a powerful rock voice. Justin proved his remarkable talent, not to mention work ethic, in Rock of Ages, and we know he's a perfect fit for SPIDER-MAN," said producer Michael Cohl.
Justin Matthew Sargent comes to Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark directly from the Broadway company of Rock of Ages, where he played Drew Boley, the lowly bartender turned rock star.
SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark features music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy Award-winners Bono and The Edge and a book co-written by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with direction by Ms. Taymor and additional direction by Philip William McKinley. Scenic Designer George Tsypin and Costume Designer Eiko Ishioka are winners of Outer Critics Circle Awards and were nominated for Tony Awards for their work on Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark.
