Theatreworks/NYC, the recently-formed Manhattan-based arm of Theatreworks/USA, has announced their new Mom's Matinees, a series of select 10:30 AM matinees of their upcoming musical Junie B. Jones, where kids go free and accompanying adults pay only $15. Junie B. Jones will begin previews on Friday, November 4th, open on Wednesday, November 9th and run through December 3rd at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street).

Based on Barbara Park's hugely successful series of books, Junie B. Jones, with book and lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by Zina Goldrich, is a musical which follows the irrepressible Junie as she gets ready for the scary world of first grade, complete with new friends, new teacher and new glasses. The 90-minute musical, featuring live musicians, is recommended for audiences age 5 and up.

The six-person cast features Russell Arden Koplin in the title role, with Randy Aaron, Jill Abramovitz, Michael McCoy, Adam Overett and Yasmeen Sulieman. The production is directed by Peter Flynn with choreography by Devanand Janki. Scenic design is by Luke Hegel-Cantarella, with lighting by Jeff Croiter, costumes by Lora LaVon, orchestrations by Jesse Vargas and musical direction by Kimberly Grigsby.

Theatreworks/USA, "America's foremost not-for-profit professional theatre for family audiences," announced in April the establishment of Theatreworks/NYC, giving the company a theatrical home in New York City for the first time in its 45-year history. Theatreworks/NYC is presenting four major shows in the 2005-2006 season at the Lortel, plus a special series for the youngest audiences-of music, puppets, magic, and more. Included in this special series is the Saturday, November 19, 10:30am, presentation of Retumba! Journey Through the Caribbean, unforgettable island music and Caribbean rhythms.

Theatreworks/NYC will present Mom's Matinees at 10:30 AM on the following dates: Friday, November 4th, Wednesday, November 16th, Thursday, November 17th, Monday, November 21st, Tuesday, November 22nd, Tuesday, November 29th, Wednesday, November 30th and Thursday, December 1st.
