The Casting Society of America has announced that Broadway veteran and comedienne Julie Halston will be the New York Mistress of Ceremonies at this year’s 24th Annual Artios Awards honoring excellence in casting.

It was announced previously that producer Thomas Schumacher, President of Disney Theatrical Group, will receive the special ‘New York Apple Award’ at the 2008 Artios Awards in New York, with Craig Zadan & Neil Meron to be honored with the Career Achievement Award, and Mali Finn with the Hoyt Boyers Award in Los Angeles.  Nominees in 19 categories were announced on September 10th including those in Broadway, Off-Broadway and Los Angeles theater.  The awards will be presented at coast-to-coast ceremonies on Monday, November 10th, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and Caroline’s on Broadway in New York.  Guest presenters in New York will include Bryan Batt, Jason Biggs, Robert Buckey, Danny Burstein, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Ehle, John Gallagher, Gavin Lee, Norm Lewis, Rebecca Luker, Alan Menkin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hunter Parrish, Kristen Schall, Sherie Renee Scott, and Michael Urie, among others.

Derived from the Greek word “artios” meaning “perfectly fitted,” the Artios Awards were established in 1985 by the Casting Society of America to recognize the significance of casting to the success of a movie, television or theatrical production and are given on the criteria of originality, creativity and the contribution of casting to the overall quality of a project.

The Casting Society of America is the premier organization of theatrical Casting Directors in film, television, and theater and is passionately committed to establishing a recognized standard of professionalism in the industry; enhancing the stature of the profession in the industry; freely exchanging information and ideas among members; providing the opportunity to honor the outstanding achievements of our members; and providing members with professional support and resources. Working in conjunction with the newly established Teamsters affiliation, CSA members are a united professional society that consistently set the level of professionalism in casting on which the entertainment industry has come to rely.
