"ER" star and stage veteran Julianna Marguiles has stated that she's likely to sign onto the Broadway transfer of Festen, which is slated to open at the Music Box Theatre this March.
She is "now
about to appear on the Great White Way for the very first time," wrote Smith. "She
confirmed that she is probably only days away from signing for a
Broadway drama, Fester (sic). 'I've done off-B'way, but never the big deal
itself!' said she."
Directed by Rufus Norris, the show is
David Eldridge's English-language adaptation of the Danish Thomas Vinterberg's play and film. The latter was a project of Dogme, the school of film that emphasizes a minimalist, digital look. Festen was previously a hit at the Almeida Theatre and on the West End, at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue. "The Klingenfelt family gathers to celebrate the 60th birthday of its
patriarch, Helge. When his son Christian is asked to make a toast,
Christian reveals a dark family secret," according to press notes.
Marguiles earned an Emmy for her work as Nurse Carol Hathaway on "ER," and also received five other nominations. Her off-Broadway credits include Intrigue with Faye, The Vagina Monologues and Ten Unknowns, for which she received a Lucille Lortel Award; she also performed in the LA production of the latter. The actress, who has appeared in numerous other plays, also appeared on film and on TV in Evelyn, Ghost Ship, "The Mists of Avalon" and the mini-series "The Grid," for which she earned a Golden Globe nod.
