The Juilliard Opera season opens with Jonathan Dove's Flight on November 16, 18, and 20, conducted by Steven Osgood and directed by James Darrah. The opera features singers from Juilliard's Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts with the Juilliard Orchestra.
Jonathan Dove's opera Flight was commissioned by the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and premiered there in 1998 with further performances in 1999 and 2005. The libretto is by leading British playwright April De Angelis, who was inspired by the true-life story of an Iranian refugee who lived at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris for 18 years. The opera features an ensemble cast of 10 singers.
Performances take place on Wednesday, November 16 and Friday, November 18, at 7:30pm; and Sunday, November 20, at 2pm in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater.
Tickets for Juilliard Opera productions are $30 and are available at events.juilliard.edu or at the Juilliard Box Office. Free tickets are available for Juilliard students; non-Juilliard students with valid ID may purchase tickets for $15, only at the Juilliard Box Office.
