In an effort to promote the need for diversity in American theatre, a committee named Jubilee has begun encouraging theatre companies and producers around the country to adhere to the following pledge:
"In order to address parity in the American Theatre and in my community I promise to support a vision of every theatre in the United States of America producing only work by women, people of color, artists of varied physical and cognitive abilities, and LBGTQA artists in the 2020-2021 season."
Jubilee is the brainchild of Kirk Lynn, a co-producing artistic director of Austin's Rude Mechs. In an American Theatre article, Lynn explains how, As a member of the national advisory committee for the online platform HowlRound, he assembled a committee of playwrights, directors and artistic directors to put his "wild idea" into motion.

Jubilee's home page, which as of October 28th lists 39 participating theatre companies, has publish a call to action that states:
We can envision a near future in which all American Theatre seasons are overflowing with works written and directed by women.
We can conceive of the myriad outstanding plays by people of color and Native artists being produced nationwide.
We can foresee LBGTQA creators hired to write, direct, and choreograph in every theatre in the United States of America.
We can anticipate artists of varied physical and cognitive abilities in every role the theatre has to offer, onstage and off.
While some may call the project exclusionary against straight, white males, the proclamation further states, "This is also a time for straight, white men to rejoice, to witness, to listen, and to be fed for one year by the stories they've also been denied. Imagine how much richer and deeper all of our lives would be if we knew just a little more about the world.
