International superstar recording artist Josh Groban attended the final performance of the spectacular specialty Stephen Sondheim revue A BED AND A CHAIR last night and posed for a photo with noted Sondheim interpreter, stage and screen star Bernadette Peters backstage following the performance.
Featuring jazz arrangements procured by music master Wynton Marsalis, A BED AND A CHAIR played from November 14 through 17 at City Center.
Directed by John Doyle and conceived originally by Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and Doyle, A BED AND A CHAIR, subtitled "A New York Love Affair," showcased sterling songs by Sondheim reinvented and reinterpreted by Marsalis featuring a cast of vocalists and dancers.
The official description of A BED AND A CHAIR was as follows: "A BED AND A CHAIR: A New York Love Affair celebrates love in New York and love of New York. For this original production, native Manhattanite Sondheim and adopted citizen Marsalis (originally from New Orleans) compared musical notes on their shared passion for our city. The program will feature more than two dozen Sondheim compositions, each piece newly re-imagined by the unique musical sensibility of Marsalis and performed by Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Performers will be drawn from both the jazz and Broadway worlds."
