Jonathan Groff Talks 'Bacchae' & 'Taking Woodstock' With NPR

Jonathan Groff goes from THE BACCHAE on stage to 'Taking Woodstock' on screen this summer. The always evolving young talent has been hitting the press circuit to promote the two projects.

In a Q&A with National Public Radio, Groff was asked to complete a number of sentences, including:

"I love to do shows at the Delacorte Theatre because..."

Groff: "...the audience waits in line all day for tickets, so it's an audience unlike any other. Everyone is really hungry to see the show -- no one is there because they were dragged by a partner or a friend -- so it's like a rock concert. Also, the unpredictable element of the weather makes every performance really exciting."

"The famous person I have a major crush on but have never met is..."

Groff: "Oh, that's easy: Jennifer Garner. She was doing Cyrano on Broadway while we were doing Spring Awakening, and I was hoping she would come and see our show. I've never met her, but I'd love to. I've seen every episode of Alias several times."

Jonathan Groff received a Tony nomination for playing Melchior in the hit Broadway musical Spring Awakening and starred as Claude in The Public's 2008 Shakespeare in the Park production of HAIR. He recently appeared in the New York premiere of Craig Lucas' THE SINGING FOREST at The Public Theatre and Craig Lucas' A PRAYER FOR MY Enemy at Playwrights Horizons. His other credits include In My Life on Broadway and regional productions of The Sound of Music, Fame, Honk!, and Bat Boy.

THE BACCHAE (90 minutes, no intermission) began preview performances at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park August 11 and officially opens Monday, August 24 at 8pm. The productions runs through August 30. Bank of America returns as lead sponsor of Shakespeare in the Park 2009.

This summer, The Public will again offer a limited number of free tickets through a Virtual Line, available at www.publictheater.org. The process will be the same as last year; the day of a show, users can log on to the virtual line anytime between midnight and 1 p.m. the day of the show. After 3 p.m. that day, users can log on to see if they have been awarded tickets through the Virtual Line, which they can then claim at the Delacorte Theater Box Office between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. that evening.

Summer Supporter seats for THE BACCHAE will be available for a tax-deductible contribution of $170. These reserved seats are only available for a limited time to ensure that the highest number of free seats will be available to distribute to the general public on the day of the show.
