In a free concert at The Juilliard School's Paul Hall, Ensemble ACJW, performs Ligeti's Ten Pieces for Wind Quintet; Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp; Scriabin's Andante from Piano Sonata No. 4, Op. 30; and Fauré's Piano Quartet No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 15.
In celebration of renowned mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne's 80th birthday, Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute presents The Song Continues, an annual celebration of the art of the vocal recital. Events include:

Mandolin player Avi Avital's piece Kedma replaces the piece Tre Fontane. The remainder of the program remains unchanged and includes works by J.S. Bach, Ernest Bloch, Yasuo Kuwahara, and Manuel De Falla, plus the New York premiere of David Bruce's Cymbeline. Mr. Avital is joined by harpist Sivan Magen and the Enso String Quartet.
Pianist Jonathan Biss performs Brahms's Klavierstücke, Op. 119; selections from Kurtág's Játékok; Chopin's Nocturnes, Op. 62, and Polonaise-fantaisie in A-flat Major, Op. 61; and a pair of Beethoven sonatas: No. 27 in E Minor, Op. 90 and No. 21 in C Major, Op. 53, "Waldstein."
The Takács Quartet (pictured at right) plays the complete quartets of Bartók, performing all six works within 24 hours over two consecutive days in Zankel Hall. (Quartets 1, 3, and 5 on January 18; Quartets 2, 4, and 6 on January 19.)
Pianist Marc-André Hamelin performs the New York premiere of his work Barcarolle, along with Nicolas Medtner's Piano Sonata in E Minor, Op. 25, No. 2, "Night Wind," and Schubert's Four Impromptus, D. 935.
PROGRAM UPDATE:
Brahms's Zigeunerlieder, Op. 103 replaces Brahms's Vier ernste Gesänge, Op. 121 on the recital program by mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter and pianist Emanuel Ax, as Mr. Ax begins his three-concert focus on the music of Brahms. They will also perform other selected lieder, and Mr. Ax will play selected works for piano. All three concerts in this series-including a recital with Yo-Yo Ma on February 23 and a solo recital by Mr. Ax on May 15-will feature new works co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall for Mr. Ax and inspired by the music of Brahms. In this concert, Mr. Ax and Ms. von Otter perform the New York premiere So Many Things by Nico Muhly.
PROGRAM ADDITION:
A program has been announced for mezzo-soprano Alice Coote's recital with pianist Graham Johnson and includes works by Poulenc, Hahn, Fauré, Chausson, Gounod, Chabrier, Berlioz, Bachelet, Saint-Saëns, Satie, Debussy, and Koechlin.
Following two October 2013 performances with the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev, pianist Denis Matsuev returns to Carnegie Hall for a recital of works by Haydn, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff.
Grammy Award-winning ensemble The Parker Quartet performs Mendelssohn's String Quartet in D Major, Op. 44, No. 1; Thomas Adès's Arcadiana for String Quartet, Op. 12; and Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 9 in E-flat Major, Op. 117.
