In celebration of his forthcoming album The Sound of His Own Voice-out October 11 on Yep Roc Records and featuring the King Charles Trio (members of The Decemberists, R.E.M. and the Minus Five)-musician/author John Wesley Harding brings his Cabinet of Wonders back to New York's City Winery for a 3-show residency on September 23, October 28 and November 18. Drawing together collaborators from the worlds of music, literature and comedy, the Cabinet of Wonders features Harding curating, hosting and performing with a number of hand-picked artists in a variety show format. Participating artists include musicians Eleanor Friedberger (of the Fiery Furnaces), Andrew VanWyngarden (of MGMT), Hamilton Leithauser (of The Walkmen), Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, Morrissey), Howe Gelb and Dan Zanes, comedians Eugene Mirman, Todd Barry and John Hodgman, and authors Audrey Niffenegger, Paul Harding, Myla Goldberg and Jami Attenberg. "I wanted to bring together my novel writing friends (who mostly envy my musician friends) and my musician friends (who mostly envy my novel writing friends) under one flag," says Harding. "The fact is: I like everyone who's performing." Please see below for a current list of upcoming performers; additional artists to be announced, line-ups are subject to change.

The Cabinet of Wonders premiered in the spring of 2009 to packed houses in New York City, presenting a diverse lineup of performers including Janeane Garofalo, Rosanne Cash, Sarah Vowell, Josh Ritter, A.C. Newman, Rhett Miller, Colson Whitehead, Graham Parker and Colum McCann. Harding proceeded to take the Cabinet of Wonders on tour throughout the U.S. with co-host Eugene Mirman, along the way adding the talents of Colin Meloy, Grant Hart, Jill Sobule, Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket), Sherman Alexie, Lucy Wainwright Roche and many others. The Village Voice calls the Cabinet of Wonders "a brilliant evening of laid-back fun," while the Portland Tribune raves that it is "one of the most whip-smart variety shows on the market. Highly recommended."

Since his critically acclaimed 1990 debut Here Comes the Groom (lauded by the LA Times as "the first great rock record of the `90s") John Wesley Harding has recorded 18 records for both major (Sire, Hollywood) and independent (Mammoth, Rhino, Appleseed) labels alike. His novels have been published by Little Brown and Picador in the U.S.
