John W. Engeman Theater's 'Little Shop of Horros' Opens 10/4

Something BIG, GREEN, and MEAN is coming to the John W. Engeman Theater at Northport this October. It's LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, running October 2 - November 9, 2008. The Popular Musical LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, written by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken, is about Seymour, an orphan and a nerd, who dreams of more than working at Mushnik's flower shop, where he spends his time doing menial tasks and dreaming of the shop assistant, Audrey. One day, just after a total eclipse of the sun, Seymour discovers a strange plant with an even stranger habit. With a taste for human flesh and a dastardly plan to take over world, this "little" plant will have you screaming with big laughter. Winner of Best Musical from New York Drama Critics Circle Awards, Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and London Evening Standard Awards.

Press Opening is Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 8:00 p.m.

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS will play the following performance schedule: Thursdays at 8:00 p.m., Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

IN ADDITION, there will be matinees on the following days: Saturday October 11 at 3:00 pm, Saturday October 25 at 3:00 pm, Saturday November 8 at 3:00 pm.

ALSO there will performances on Sunday October 19 at 7:00 pm and Sunday November 2 at 7:00.

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is directed and choreographed by Stephen DeAngelis who has been Casting Director for the John W. Engeman Theater since its inception and is on staff at Grey NYC having cast over 2,200 network television and radio commercials. As a Director, his work has been seen in numerous productions at venues across the United States including the Charles Playhouse (Boston), Warner Theatre (Washington, D.C.), Casa Manana (Ft. Worth), Dallas Summer Musicals, St. Louis Municipal Opera (The MUNY), Dorset Theatre Festival (VT), Tri-State Center for the Arts (NY), Shawnee Playhouse (PA) and Theatre-by-the-Sea (NH). The musical director is Donny Jones, who has played on Broadway in the pits of FLOWER DRUM SONG and WICKED, as well as having musically directed numerous shows including JEKYLL & HYDE , A WONDERFUL LIFE, and MAN OF LA MANCHA for the John W. Engeman Theater at Northport.

The Design Team includes Court Watson (Scenic Designer) who returns to the John W. Engeman Theater where he previously designed LEND ME A TENOR and OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY. Mr. Watson has numerous regional theater design credits as well as on television for ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Tricia Barsamian (Costume Designer) recently designed costumes for YANK! A NEW MUSICAL at the Gallery Players and also designs for The Dalton School and St. Ann's School in Brooklyn where she is also a Costume Studies teacher. Joel E. Silver (Lighting Designer) whose design credits include THE PRODUCERS (TBTS), PIANO STARTS HERE at the Apollo Theatre, recent Associate and Assistant Design credits include the Broadway productions of Young Frankenstein and Grey Gardens. Bridget O'Connor (Sound Designer) who has designed numerous shows for the Main State Theater and assisted on SOUTH PACIFIC, and THE GLORIOUS ONES for the Lincoln Center Theater. Mark Adam Rampmeyer (Hair and Wig Designer) returns to the John W. Engeman Theater after designing numerous shows in its inaugural season. He recently completed work on the Hartford Stage Company production of THE MILK TRAIN DOESN'T STOP HERE ANYMORE starring Olympia Dukakis and also recently worked with CyBill Shepherd on her one woman production of CURVY WIDOW for the Post Street Theatre in San Francisco. Sonoka Fukuma Gozelski (Prop Designer)who has numerous assistant set design credits, including serving as scenic artist and designer for the Commerce Bank Children's Theater series at the John W. Engeman Theater. The Production Stage Manager is CJ LaRoche.

The cast of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS features Josh Lamon (Seymour) who appeared as Boq in the National Tour of WICKED, and received a Barrymore Award for his performance as Snail in A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD; and Gina Milo (Audrey) who has performed in the National Tours of LES MISERABLES , ANNIE and BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS starring Ann-Margret. The cast also includes Anna Bowen (Chiffon/Dance Captain) whose credits include ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (Baltimore Centerstage), EVITA (Gateway Playhouse), AIDA (Patchogue Theatre), and also performed last year in Europe for Disney Cruise Lines. Kristal Joy Brown (Crystal) who recently starred as Roxie in STORYFORIA, a Pilot for Nickelodeon and as Mimi in the National Tour of RENT. Melinda Wakefield Alberty (Ronnette) who recently perfomed as Betsy in BIG RIVER at The Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, and in The King and I as Lady Thiang at Broadhollow Theatre Company. Bob Arnold (Mushnik) recently completed a critically-acclaimed run of THE PRODUCERS as Max Bialystock, has toured Europe and Japan in countless productions and is also a playwright (CITIZENS OF THE WORLD), lyricist (CYBERONDO with composer Al Frantz), and costumer (Masters Degree). Christian Whelan (Orin, Bernstein, Snip, Luce) who performed in the National Tours of DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (Lawrence Jameson), AIDA (Zoser), and RAGTIME (Conklin). Christian has also appeared on GENERAL HOSPITAL, GUILDING LIGHT, and ALL MY CHILDREN. Maxx (Audrey II / Voice) has most recently been seen touring as the Latin front man for Atlantic Records' recording group THE TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA and was the winner of CBS' first ever LATIN AMERICAN IDOL in 2005 where he was the recipient of the Nueva Estrella Award; and Bill Remington (Audrey II/manipulator) reprises his role from the 2003/2004 Broadway revival. The Understudies are Missy Dowse, Jade Hicks, and Craig Sculli.
