E! News has revealed exclusively that John Travolta, who took on the iconic role of Danny Zuko in the 1978 big screen adaptation of GREASE, turned down an opportunity to participate in FOX's upcoming live broadcast of GREASE LIVE.

When asked if the Grease: Live! producers approached him about taking part, the actor exclusively tells E! News: "They did, but you know, that's my history." He went on to share that he is excited about the show and will definitely be tuning in to FOX on January 31st. "Like Sound of Music and other things, to do a live production is kind of fun and it'll be interesting to see it," he tells E! News. "[Grease] is done every day in high schools, it's done every summer in summer theater."

Travolta also tells the site that he will not consider taking part in NBC's just-announced next live TV musical HAIRSPRAY. The actor portrayed Edna Turnblad in the 2007 big screen adaptation.

While Travolta will not be taking part in Grease: Live!, FOX announced Friday that the broadcast will feature two actors from the 1978 movie, Didi Conn (Frenchy) and Barry Pearl (Doody).

Travolta hit the TCA Press Tour in Pasadena over the weekend to promote his role as Robert Shapiro in Ryan Murphy's limited series AMERICAN CRIME Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson, airing Feb. 2 on FX. It's been four decades since he last appeared as a regular on TV (in Welcome Back, Kotter). He will star as O.J. Simpson defense attorney Robert Shapiro in the FX limited series, going head-to-head with co-prosecutor Johnny Cochran (Courtney B. Vance) in some explosive scenes. The actor revealed it took him four months to decide whether to do AMERICAN CRIME Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson. "I asked some incredible people, many incredible people for their opinion, and they all said to do it," he tells us, adding that it was his trust in Ryan Murphy that ultimately sealed the deal.
