John Tartaglia will follow Avenue Q to Las Vegas, repeating his Tony-nominated performance as Princeton, Rod and other characters in the show's incarnation at the Wynn Las Vegas resort.
The actor/puppeteer, who is currently performing his show AD-LIBerty on the Norwegian Dawn cruiseline, announced on the ship that he would return to Avenue Q, which will open on August 27th. He will be even busier in Las Vegas than he was on Broadway, where he stayed with Avenue Q until January of 2005. Beginning on September 3rd, the show will play on a 10-performance schedule, with two shows a night at 6:30 PM and 10 PM (as well as two dark nights). Tartaglia, who appeared in the Actors' Fund benefit concert of Hair, is also in talks with the Disney Channel to co-create and star in a show.A send-up of Sesame Street and other children's shows, Avenue Q
mixes profanity and tenderness in its story of wordly but still hopeful
puppets and humans looking for love, success and purpose. The show
won the Best Musical Tony in 2004, as well as Best Book (Jeff Whitty)
and Best Score (Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez). Jason Moore directed the
Broadway production, and Garry Adler served up the musical direction. Tartaglia, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Rick Lyon, Ann Harada and Jennifer
Barnhart were among the puppeteers and performers of the original cast.
Avenue Qcontinues to play the Golden Theatre (252 W. 45th St.).
