John Stewart Calls Out GM for Ignition Switch Recall

Last night on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, comedian John Stewart called out General Motors in a segment about GM's ignition switch recall.

He criticized the fact that they had known about this problem for years, but haven't done anything to fix it. "They found out in 2001, they studied the problem for 4 years, did an internal cost-benefit analysis using your standard analytic, algorithm, barometric, PE ratio equations, and came up with, 'F**k it.'"

Stewart then criticized GM for deciding not to repair the cars years ago due to cost concerns, even though it would have cost 57 cents per vehicle to replace the part. Stewart said, "You could've found at least that much in the seats of the cars you're fixing!"

It is then reported that GM knows of over 13 deaths and 32 crashes have been caused from the cars' faulty ignition switches, and GM's solution to that was to tell drivers not to use heavy key chains. Stewart then mockingly said, "Why fix a problem you've created, when you can just ask your surviving customers to get rid of their keys?"
