Donovan truly is one of the preeminent members of British Rock Royalty and remains an important part of popular culture since his career began in 1965. Between 1966-1969, Donovan scored a string of eleven Top 40 hits in a row: Mellow Yellow, Sunshine Superman, Epistle to Dippy, There is a Mountain, Wear Your Love Like Heaven, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Jennifer Juniper, Lalena, Atlantis, and Riki Tiki Tavi. He was a close friend of The Beatles and has shared the stage with many musical legends, including Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck.
Donovan's autobiography The Hurdy Gurdy Man (Arrow Books) was published in 2005 and a documentary, Sunshine Superman, The Journey of Donovan , was released by SPV in 2008. His latest CD release, THE ESSENTIAL DONOVAN (Sony) is a 36-song, double-CD collection of his seminal recordings from 1965 to 1973 on the Hickory and Epic Records labels, includes four tracks previously unissued on CD in the U.S. Donovan has been honored as an "Officer of the Order of Arts & Lettres of the French Republic" in recognition of his contribution to poetry and songwriting.
