John O'Hurley Joins National Tour of Chicago for 3 Cities

John O'Hurley will play his final performance as Billy Flynn in Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre on Sunday, April 16th, but will join the national touring company of the musical for three special engagements.

O'Hurley will play the following engagements on the road as razzle-dazzling attorney Billy Flynn: the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, NC from June 13th through 18th; the Theater of the Stars in Atlanta, GA from June 20th through 25th; and the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center (TBPAC) from June 27th through July 2nd.

The national tour of Chicago currently features Terra C. MacLeod as Velma Kelly, Michelle DeJean as Roxie Hart, Greg Evigan as Billy Flynn, Carol Woods as Matron "Mama" Morton, Kevin Carolan as Amos Hart, and R. Bean as Mary Sunshine.

O'Hurley, is well-known to TV audiences as the winning star of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and as J. Peterman on "Seinfeld." "In an example of life imitates art, the actor just so happens to be John Peterman's (the real J. Peterman), business partner and part-owner of the J. Peterman Company," according to press notes. O'Hurley's theatre credits include national tours of The Pirates of Penzance, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Brigadoon, while his many film and TV credits include SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom (as the voice of King Neptune), "The Mullets," "Tarzan & Jane," Teddy Bears' Picnic, "Cursed," Love Stinks, Slammed, "General Hospital," "Santa Barbara" and "The Young and the Restless."

Chicago, which opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on November 14th 1996, has reached a run of over 3,900 performances at the Ambassador Theatre (215 W. 49th St.); the show is the longest-running revival in Broadway history. Chicago received 6 '97 Tonys (including Best Revival of a Musical) under the direction of Walter Bobbie and the choreography of star Ann Reinking. The revival, based on Bobbie's stylistically stripped-down Encores! staging, featured direction and choreography by Bob Fosse in its original 1975 production. Chicago features a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse.

A number of new replacements will soon be welcomed into the Broadway production.  On April 17th, Obba Babatunde will succeed John O'Hurley as Billy Flynn, Charlotte D'Amboise will replace Robin Givens as Roxie and Brenda Braxton will succeed Amra-Faye Wright as Velma. On June 12th, Kevin Chamberlin will follow P.J. Benjamin as Amos Hart.  The show also stars Lillias White as Matron "Mama" Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
