Tony Award-winning SPRING AWAKENING star John Gallagher Jr. discusses his big win in the Featured Actor In A Musical category for the edgy rock musical as well as shares memories of his starry assortment of co-stars for the show as part of a new interview, including a candid recollection of a particularly amusing story from the actual night itself.

Gallagher Jr. relates of accepting theatre's top honor, "I remember very little about the actual acceptance speech. But the neat thing in a weird way about the Tony Awards is that you're still doing the show as the awards are happening. So we did a matinee Sunday afternoon and then went straight from the matinee to the awards."

He continues, "There's a scene in Spring Awakening where you find out that my character is failing out of school and it happens in a mime kind of way. Stephen Spinella and Christine Estabrook, who play the two teachers, are facing me and they would say something different every night, because they're not mic'd. Sunday of the Tony Awards, Christine said to me something like - I wish I could remember exactly - something like "Herr Schiefel" - that's my character's name - 'I've thought long and hard about this and I have one thing to say to you and one thing only: Good luck tonight.' She said to me onstage and it was amazing. I almost just started crying. And then winning was life changing."

Gallagher Jr. concludes, "Even though I can barely remember it, I'll also never forget it."

Additionally, the NEWSROOM star shares his support of the recent success of SPRING AWAKENING cast-mates Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, among others, stating, "I always knew that Lea was going to be a superstar and that Jonathan was going to do great things. Everybody that touched that show was so talented and soulful and generous as people and performers. It seemed like a no-brainer. I remember being texted when Lea got Glee and I looked it up and saw the preview and was like, that makes perfect sense."
