John Cariani, Jackie Hoffman, Christine Pedi, George S. Irving and Fritz Weaver Among Stars of A CHEKHOV-SHAW COMEDY NIGHT

SOMETHING ROTTEN's John Cariani, ON THE TOWN's Jackie Hoffman, NEWSICAL's Christine Pedi and stage legends George S. Irving and Fritz Weaver will be among the stars participating in in the Gingold Theatrical Group's latest edition of PROJECT SHAW.

Titled A CHEKHOV-SHAW COMEDY NIGHT, the September 21st, 7pm performance will include a reading of George Bernard Shaw's feminist comedy, PRESS CUTTINGS, preceded by two short plays by one of his major influences, Anton Chekhov: SWAN SONG, where an actor takes a sobering look at his life after giving his final performance, and A TRAGEDIAN IN SPITE OF HIMSELF, a comic look at the roles we undertake in life.

"We're thrilled at GTG/Project Shaw to bring our loyal audiences Chekhov for the first time in this series," said Artistic Director David Staller. "We will be presenting the world premiere of new adaptations of two of the Russian master's short but potent comedies. Along with Ibsen, Chekhov was the man responsible for inspiring Shaw to write plays in the first place. Joining these two delightful pieces will be one short Shaw play about women's rights and the power of the press."

Now celebrating its 10th year, Gingold Theatrical Group's PROJECT SHAW made history in December 2009 as the first company ever to present performances of every one of Shaw's 65 plays (including full-length works, one-acts and sketches). PROJECT SHAW has been the core series of Gingold Theatrical Group, coined as "New York's monthly guide to reason." PROJECT SHAW presents monthly Monday night readings of the works of George Bernard Shaw. Each Shaw play is presented in a concert-reading format at New York City's literary center, Symphony Space. All readings are produced and directed by Gingold Theatrical Group Founding Artistic Director David Staller. Mr. Staller edits each play, using Shaw's extensive notes and essays.
