Producers of the five-time Tony Award nominated hit musical Rock of Ages have announced that Joey Calveri, who currently plays the ensemble role of Joey Primo, will step into the spotlight as wild rock idol Stacee Jaxx beginning today, December 17 at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre (240 W 44th Street). Andrew Call (American Idiot) will join the company as Joey Primo today as well. Original Broadway Cast member Jeremy Woodard, who originated the role of Joey Primo off & on Broadway and has performed the role of Stacee Jaxx since September 2011, played his final performance on Sunday, December 16.
Calveri has performed in the ensemble as Joey Primo and understudied Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages since joining the Broadway cast on September 26, 2011, after performing the role in the show's wildly successful First National Tour. Other recent credits of his include Broadway's Wonderland (Knight), the First National Tour of Saturday Night Fever, and the Las Vegas production of We Will Rock You.
The five-time Tony Award nominated musical Rock of Ages, which recently celebrated its 1500th New York performance and is currently the 58th Longest Running Broadway Show in history, celebrated serving its one millionth Broadway customer last month. The milestone is one of many celebrated in 2012, the show's fourth year on Broadway, as Rock of Ages continues to sell out performances at the Helen Hayes Theater, consistently making the Broadway Top 10 for capacity, average ticket price and percentage of gross potential week after week. In 2012, Rock of Ages has also broken the Helen Hayes Theatre Box Office Record, for an 8-performance week, five times. The record was first broken in the week ending February 19, 2012 with $466, 140, surpassing the previous record of $460,130 earned by Xanadu in 2007. The production has continued this record-setting path, breaking its own Box Office Record an additional 4 times in the weeks ending June 10, 2012 ($472, 562), June 17, 2012 ($476, 967), June 24, 2012 ($506, 578) and October 7, 2012 ($532, 998).
ROCK OF AGES kicked off Broadway's Best Party on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 and played its final performance at The Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Sunday, January 9, 2011 before re-opening at The Helen Hayes Theatre on March 24, 2011.
