Copenhagen based singer and musician Hannah Schneider grew up in a family of classical musicians, and naturally started to play both the piano and the violin at age five. The love for her piano soon turned into a great fascination of small synths and keyboards, and inspired Hannah to start composing at the age of 13.Since then she has written songs, gone to the conservatory in Copenhagen, and performed in various constellations all over Europe.

In 2009 she was signed to Mermaid Records/Sony BMG, and the self titled debut album came out in September 2009. It was well received both by the radio and the press, who called Hannah "a rarely skilled pop songwriter, who manages to put herself at stake" and predicted her international success.  Hannah has co- written songs with many internationally acclaimed songwriters, such as Jeff Cohen (Teitur, Macy Gray), Itaal Shuur (Jewel, Maxwell) and Kim Richey, with whom she wrote the song "The Absence of Your Company" that was featured on Grey's Anatomy.  Inspired by the great number of interesting current Scandinavian artists like Lykke Li, Jenny Wilson and Stina Nordenstam, Hannah Schneider creates melancholic and playful pop, crafted with a love for the singer/songwriter tradition and a fascination with electronic sounds and samples.

SO F*#%ING GAY: A MICHAEL R. Jackson SONG THING
Monday, October 11 at 9:30 PM; $15
Michael R. Jackson celebrates National Coming Out (and the lesser Columbus) Day with a return to Joe's Pub featuring a collection of his brand of down and dirty musical-theater-meets-old-school singer-songwriter songs sung by some of his favorite performers about all the usual gay things: love, hate, murder, politics, childhood, race, religion, and of course, S-E-X. Lots of S-E-X. More S-E-X than he's currently having but that's a story for another song. Some people hate him, some people love him; either way, he will not be easily swept under the rug or off stage as SO f-ing GAY: A MICHAEL R. Jackson SONG THING promises to be an edgy, intimate, collaterally damaging night of song that'll leave you sore but begging for more the next day.

Michael is a graduate of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts Musical Theatre Writing Program. He has won no fancy-pants awards, received no accolades, and has been offered no synergistic branding opportunities. He has however written book and/or lyrics for the musicals "Only Children" (LCT Director's Lab, NYU Undergraduate Main Stage) and "Menu" (in development). By day Michael shills for the man in corporate America. By night he pounds the pavement for a so-called "self-referential" musical entitled "A Strange Loop." FRIEND HIM ON FACEBOOK. facebook.com/thelivingmichaeljackson. He values nothing more than his meaningless social networking relationships.

APRIL SMITH & THE GREAT PICTURE SHOW
Tuesday, October 12 at 7:00 PM; $14
April Smith and the Great Picture Show will bring their swinging, juke joint swagger to Joe's Pub on October 12th.   Labeled one of the New York Post's '10 Musicians to Watch in 2010,' Paste magazine hails April Smith "quite the burlesque bad girl... packing a sound full of sassy hooks and swinging rhythms." "April Smith was born to be an entertainer," agree NPR. "She radiates sunny energy and stage-ready sauciness."

The New York Post declares Smith "adorable, quirky, and the owner of a voice that could cure depression," in their PopWrap blog, adding that, "April makes the world a better place. Period."   Audiences nationwide are hearing April Smith and the Great Picture Show on their new single "Terrible Things," which is currently being featured in promos for the hit Showtime television series Weeds.

PEGI YOUNGWednesday, October 13 at 7:30 PM; $15
Pegi initially came to the public's attention through her longstanding role as backup singer with Neil Young, her husband of three decades. But Foul Deeds -- whose first 5,000 copies will also include the bonus live DVD Love Like Water, directed by noted filmmaker Jonathan Demme at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia -- makes it clear that Pegi's iconoclastic creative voice is very much her own. Her uncanny knack for cutting to the heart of thorny emotional issues drives such indelible originals as "Broken Vows," "Starting Over," "Who Knew" and the rueful title track. Another highlight is the dusky, lilting "Traveling," which appears on the album in two versions, one spare and dreamy, and the other performed with a full band.
In addition to Young's own compositions, Foul Deeds features the artist's personalized interpretations of a quartet of songs by other writers. Her compelling readings of Will Jennings' "Pleasing to Me," Lucinda Williams' "Side of the Road," Devendra Banhart's "Body Breaks" and B. Boatman's "Blue Sunday" imbue those already-distinctive songs with additional depth and color.
