One of NYC's favorite kindie rock acts, Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights, is set to rock out in celebration of their new CD, Bandwagon.Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights will present a free, outdoor, all-ages show at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 8 at Riverside Park South, Riverside Drive between 65th St. and 72nd St., NYC
This show is part of Summer on the Hudson, the City of New York's Parks Department's annual outdoor arts and culture festival.
Gifted with a soulful, "rock solid" voice and an instinctive knack for capturing the essence of any style she goes for, Joanie Leeds has delivered, with each new album, music that thrills admiring adults yet speaks to kids in a friendly, non-patronizing way. Says Sirius/XM's Kids Place Live Program Director Mindy Thomas, "Joanie Leeds is that cool babysitter who would let you try on her lip gloss once your mom left the house. You idolized her, and your mom knew she could trust her. That's Joanie. Only she's also likely to completely ROCK THE ROOF OFF YOUR HOUSE!"
Joanie Leeds & the Nightlights' show will be a high energy, interactive experience from start to finish, showcasing such "Joanie favorites" as "Ice Cream," "Happy as a Clam," "Wimoweh," and "Sunglasses," along with an array of songs from Bandwagon, including "Bandwagon," "Helmet," and "UFO." Kids will move like crazy during Joanie's "Freeze Dance" song, and she'll have prizes for all the awesome dancers. "Blast Off," one of Joanie's most requested and rowdiest tunes, gives kids a chance to practice counting down from 10 backwards and then jumping as high as they can when everyone shouts, "BLAST OFF!" Joanie also promises to hold a raffle, with copies of Bandwagon as prizes.
Joanie Leeds has been honored with Parents' Choice Gold and NAPPA Gold Awards for her recordings. She is also the recipient of the prestigious Independent Music Award for Best Children's Song ("More Cowbell").
