This July, playwright Joan Beber, will premiere her newest play DEAR JANE beginning July 18 at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre (410 W 42 Street) and will open on July 26 and run through August 26, 2017. Set in an NYC rehearsal room, DEAR JANE journeys into the life of a passionate artist, Julie, who explores the many divergent paths of her past. From her fractured relationship with her identical twin Jane, to love affairs, questionable parenting skills, and her time as a political activist -- she strives for something beyond our boundaries, reaching for art as the ultimate expression of meaning.
The cast includes Jenny Piersol (National Tour: South Pacific), Amanda Rose (Broadway: Holiday Inn. ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Joan Beber (Playwright) has worked primarily as a visual artist in her early career, experimenting with painting, performance, installation art & poetry. While raising four daughters, she exhibited her work in San Diego County. Her one-person shows included The UCSD Annex Gallery, The Jewish Community Center Gallery & The Art Institute in Balboa Park. Having graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in English Literature many years earlier, Joan spent ten years in UCSD's Concurrent Enrollment Program to prepare for graduate school. After three years of commuting from San Diego & competing with younger students, she received her MFA at age sixty-seven from USC. Hunger: In Bed with Roy Cohn, written at seventy-three, was her first produced play in Los Angeles and a world premiere. At the risk of his career as an attorney, Joan's father tried to exonerate Ethel in the early 50s.
Katrin Hilbe (Director) is a director of opera and theatre, writer, producer of Liechtenstein-Kansas origin. For the Midtown International Theatre Festival in NYC she functions as the Artistic Director of International Relations. Katrin directs both in Europe and in the US. Her latest opera production of Richard Strauss Salome for New Orleans Opera won "Best Opera Production 2012" of the Big Easy Classical Arts Award. Her latest European production was 'Breaking the Silence' by Rivka Bekerman-Greenberg for the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Between 2007-2010 she was the primary Assistant Director for Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen under the direction of Tankred Dorst at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany. She holds a Masters in Philosophy, Musicology, English/American Literature from the University of Berne (Switzerland). Katrin is a member of LPTW, TRU, DG and associate member of SDC.
