During the new irreverent comedy An Act of God, Jim Parsons, who portrays The Man Upstairs, offers his thoughts on everything from the story of Creation to the newest trends in pop culture. At last night's performance, the actor tested out an updated version of a previous joke involving former Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn Jenner.
"How about that Caitlyn Jenner?" Parsons asked the audience, giving the athlete a thumbs-up. "The first Kardashian woman I can tolerate -honestly!" According to The Hollywood Reporter, the joke received both laughter and applause from the audience, as Parsons continued, "Gay, straight, bisexual, transgender; thou art all equally smitable in my eyes."
The joke in question previously read, "Bruce Jenner is the first Kardashian woman I can tolerate," according to the New York Daily News, but as writer David Javerbaum joked to THR, "To keep up with current events, we have changed the subject of a line in An Act of God from 'Bruce Jenner' to 'Caitlyn Jenner' - we suspect this transition was far easier than hers."
